Do you ever have days when your hair will not do anything you want it to, and you end up feeling less than glamorous? One Friday afternoon, I was particularly frustrated with my hair, which had not been cooperating for days. Enter Cherry Blow Dry Bar, a beauty business specializing in hair blowouts, styling, and treatment.
A blowout entails simply styling hair with a round brush while blow-drying — no heat tools like a curling iron or flat iron need to be involved. For those of us who are not particularly good at styling our own hair, blow dry bars are a convenient option.
“A lot of people don’t understand what the blowout is,” says Britany Graham, owner of the Bryan College Station location of Cherry Blow Dry Bar. “They think it’s a smoothing treatment or like the Brazilian blowout, but it’s really just for anyone who isn’t good at doing their own hair. It’s for an everyday person based on the cost and ease of it, and it saves time.”
The B/CS location of Cherry opened in January of 2018.
Cherry serves anyone with hair, Graham jokes, although their most frequent customers are typically working women and stay-at-home moms.
“My husband and I wanted to open a business that was unique to the area, and Cherry was the choice,” says Graham. “We saw a gap in the market, and I knew how much I had loved my experiences at other blow dry bars in other towns, so I wanted to bring one here for all the residents of B/CS.”
Indeed, Cherry is one of the only operating blow dry bars in B/CS. I had to try it out for myself.
As I swung open the glass door at Cherry, I instantly felt at ease as I was greeted by two smiling stylists and the sweet smell of shampoo. Looking around, I noticed the sleek and modern-yet-classic aesthetic of the room, the two big screens in the middle hanging from the ceiling to entertain people on opposite sides of the counter, and the vibrant colors. I also noticed a small section of the room made to look like a dazzling red carpet, where I was told people like to take pictures, most often brides and their bridal parties.
M
y stylist, Rosa Espinoza, led me around the large, rectangular, white counter to a spot in a cherry-red leather seat. She handed me a look-book of styles I could choose from. I picked Beachy Keen, loose yet textured waves to create a fresh-off-the-beach feel.
We started at the shampoo bowl, where I got a relaxing scalp massage, double shampoo to ensure freshness and cleanliness for a “clean canvas,” and hydrating conditioner.
After that was the blowout. I nearly gasped as I looked in the mirror and saw my shiny, revived hair, blow-dried to perfection. Rosa then worked her Beachy Keen magic in less than 30 minutes, and I was very happy with how it turned out.
In addition to the classic blowout and hair styling, Cherry offers makeup and hair extension application. Although Cherry has a wide variety of hair and makeup styles to choose from, another option for customers is to bring in pictures as examples, and the stylist can make it happen.
Out of Cherry’s cosmetics services, I chose to try out some false eyelashes. Rosa applied them for me in less than five minutes, and they turned out great and natural-looking.
Cherry offers three different membership options for beauty enthusiasts and frequent clients. There is
the signature membership, which includes two blowouts per month; the trendsetter membership, which includes four blowouts; or the pre-paid membership, which is a package of 12 blowouts to use anytime throughout the year. Purchasing a membership allows regular customers to get their blowouts at a discounted rate. For example, the classic blowout is $45.99 for gues ts, but $35.99 for members.
Cherry Blow Dry Bar is located at 3975 Hwy 6, Suite 1050, in College Station. Their operating hours are Monday through Saturday, 7am to 9pm, and Sunday 9am to 5pm.
