Chloe Lyon met Kevin Oliver in January 2016, but it wasn’t necessarily love at first sight. Chloe had just started working at CHI St. Joseph as a nurse, where Kevin was also a nurse. When Chloe moved to night shifts, Kevin was her preceptor, and the rest was, as they say, history.
“He was always my favorite to work with,” Chloe says. “We just got along really good as friends, but I had never pictured it as us dating.”
It was during a coworkers going away party that Kevin finally made his move. “When we were leaving [the party], he told, me — it wasn’t even a question — he was like, ‘We’re going to go out next week,’’’ Chloe explains. “So we ended up dating from there and then eight months later we got engaged.”
It was during a vacation to Pikes Peak in Colorado that Kevin proposed to Chloe. His plan was to propose at the very top of Pikes Peak, but plans changed when a wind advisory prevented them from ascending the summit.
“They stopped halfway up the mountain where they just let us get off,” Chloe says. “It was really, really cold and so we found a warm spot where it was nice and sunny in the snow, and then he started being all sweet to me and he joked around at first, because we kind of anticipated him maybe proposing to me.” After teasing Chloe, Kevin got down on one knee to propose. “It was just us and no one else around us. It was just real nice.”
Chloe admits planning a wedding was very stressful, and even thought of eloping instead, but felt she would regret not having the wedding she always wanted.
“I think we started first with a venue and then we kind of went from there,” Chloe says. “I didn’t know what my colors would be until I met with the florist, and then once I met with the florist and decided what floral colors we would have, that’s how I decided what our decorations would look like from there.”
Chloe describes her wedding as kind of rustic, outdoorsy, and floral, with just a hint of sparkle and a little bit of glam. 7F Lodge was the perfect venue to help realize her vision, while keeping an intimate, laid-back feel.
“I loved how it didn’t really feel like you were in College Station or in the city; it was kind of woodsy,” she explains. “I liked how it was perfect for spring. I loved the way the white rustic chapel went against the background of the wooded area and how it could be so easily dressed up with flowers or whatever we wanted to do. And I liked how it was just kind of quaint and small and quiet. I didn’t want anything huge or crazy.”
Chloe’s day-of coordinator helped make sure everything stayed on track the day of the wedding. “It went by really, really fast, but it was exciting,” she says.
One of the more special moments for Chloe was walking down the aisle. The couple decided not to partake in the first-look trend, so Kevin and Chloe saw each other for the first time as she walked down the aisle.
“Kevin, he’s not very emotional at all, and I’ve never seen him cry,” says Chloe. “So seeing him cry as I was walking down the aisle was — it made me cry.”
The weather was perfect and everything went off without a hitch. Chloe looks back on her wedding day with fond memories. “It was just a perfect day.”
