Last Minute, Still Perfect: Andy & Jennifer Ann

Being flexible really is important,” says Jennifer Ann Scasta when talking about advice for future brides. Her statement could not be more relevant to her experience, because her wedding took a crazy turn of events.

In the days leading up to her wedding, Jennifer Ann kept receiving messages from friends and family asking if there was a wedding backup plan. The forecast called for heavy rains and tornadoes. “I wasn’t worried about the rain,” Jennifer Ann explains. However, Rock Lake Ranch, where the wedding was planned to take place, didn’t have anywhere for people to go if the weather became dangerous.

Forty-eight hours before her wedding, Jennifer Ann decided she should probably change her venue. Her wedding coordinator, Ashley and Company, suggested the Thomas G. Hildebrand, DVM ‘56 Equine Complex at Texas A&M University. With only one wedding previously held at the Equine Center, Jennifer Ann says they had to get creative with the space, but it all worked out wonderfully in the end.

Jennifer Ann met her husband Andy through his brother. They both grew up showing cattle, have several mutual friends, and many places where their paths should have crossed, but never met, according to Jennifer Ann. Once they did meet, it didn’t take long for the couple to realize they were meant to spend the rest of their lives together. “We had such similar lives up until that point,” Jennifer Ann explains. “We really felt like God was preparing us for this moment...We only dated 87 days before we got engaged.”

The bride and her mom planned the wedding together for 13 months, getting along wonderfully throughout the entire process despite the last-minute venue change, reports Jennifer Ann. Even though the wedding venue changed, there were few modifications from the original plans Jennifer Ann and her mom made. The overall theme was rustic elegance. D’Vine Catering provided Mexican food for the reception. Jennifer Ann found her Alvina Valenta designed wedding dress at a small dress shop in Boerne. Men’s Warehouse provided khaki jackets, vests, and ties for the guys. Ashley and Company provided all of the linens, and flower arrangements from Postoak Florist were used for the centerpieces.

“A lot of the budget was flowers,” Jennifer Ann explains. She wanted everything to have a neutral feel, adding lots of bright, pretty flowers to give it the perfect look. She even had her flower girls wear flower crowns.

The wedding party didn’t seem very big, with only three bridesmaids, two groomsmen, three flower girls, and two ring bearers. However, Jennifer Ann had 14 honorary bridesmaids, an idea she got from a friend of hers. Even those bridesmaids who weren’t able to stand next to her at the altar contributed to one of the most memorable moments for Jennifer Ann. Before the wedding, all of the girls joined Jennifer Ann in the conference room at the Equine Center and prayed together. “That was just a really sweet time.”

The weather was beautiful at the Equine Center, and the couple later found out it was terrible at the original venue. What may have seemed like a wedding nightmare became a blessing in disguise. Jennifer Ann sums it up by saying, “The wedding ended up being better than I could have imagined.”
