The Rose Rustlers by Greg Grant and William C. Welch Watch any romantic comedy or go to any grocery store flower shop and you can find a beautiful bouquet of red roses. Roses have a place in all forms of pop culture: songs, books, movies... you name it. What is seen as a traditional rose barely scratches the surface of the types of roses found in the state, country, and world. In The Rose Rustlers, Greg Grant and William “Bill” C. Welch explore the history of rose rustling and antique roses from around the globe.
So, what exactly is a “rose rustler?” A rose rustler is someone who collects, protects, documents, and shares roses, to put it simply. Grant and Welch are both part of the Texas Rose Rustlers group, which was started in 1982 by Pam Puryear, Margaret Sharpe, and Bill Welch. Throughout The Rose Rustlers, Welch and Grant share personal rustling stories, tips on growing roses in your garden, and information and history on some of their favorite types of roses. Along with their loving, passionate, and well-researched stories are breathtaking pictures of the various roses.
Trust me when I say you don’t have to have a green thumb to enjoy Grant and Welch’s love letter to roses and rose rustling. However, green thumb or not, you may get the bug to start your very own rose garden if you haven’t already.
