Families might think twice about bringing home a new pet after watching Blinn College’s upcoming production of “Bunnicula.”
In the play based on the 1980s children’s book series by James and Deborah Howe, the Monroe family finds a cuddly bunny at a theater while watching “Dracula.” The bunny is brought home and affectionately named “Bunnicula,” but soon the family’s produce starts losing its juice and the other family pets are suspicious of the new addition.
“This is an awesome show that teaches us not to judge a book by its cover,” says Bradley Nies, theatre director. “Just because someone is different from us does not mean that they are to be feared.”
Written by Jon Klein, this play is the only authorized adaption of “Bunnicula.” The show has had more than 100 productions in the Unites States and Canada as well as a successful national tour.
The Brenham campus Theatre Program will host 7pm performances October 15-17 with a 2pm show October 18. All shows are at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center. As part of the College’s Service Learning Program, Blinn will host shows for local elementary school students October 15-16.
“We hope everyone comes out to see this great Halloween play for children,” Nies says.
