The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History is pleased to announce its participation in Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment of the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day, May 28, through Labor Day, Sept. 3.
“The Blue Star Museums program is a great opportunity for the NEA to team up with local museums in every state in the nation to support our service members and their families," said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “It means a lot to offer these families access to high-quality, budget-friendly opportunities to spend time together.”
Noting that more than 700,000 service members participated in the program previously, Kathy Roth-Douquet, CEO of Blue Star Families, said, “The response has been so far beyond anything we ever imagined it to be. Museum-going enhances resilience, it broadens your perspective, it opens your mind to beauty and ideas and things that you might not have known before.”
More than 2,000 museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa are taking part in this initiative. Blue Star Museums represent not just fine arts museums, but also science museums, history museums, nature centers, and dozens of children’s museums.
“We enjoy offering free admission to our servicemen and women and their families and hope to see many of them in the Museum this summer,” said Dr. Deborah Cowman, executive director of the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History.
The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History is open to visitors Tuesday through Saturday, 10am-5pm, and from June 4 through August 17, Monday through Saturday 10am-5pm. Regular admission fees: adults $5; seniors/students/children $4; children 3 and under are free.
