The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra™ is pleased to celebrate the festive sounds of the season with the community for the 10th annual holiday themed concert. The Holiday Pops Concert tradition will take place at 5pm on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Christ United Methodist Church. The Symphony’s Brass and Percussion musicians will be joined by James Faith on organ, the Christ United Methodist Church Sanctuary Choir, The Canticle Ringers, College Station High School Varsity Women’s Choir, and the Brenham Children’s Chorus. All these talented ensembles will grace the stage both individually and collectively with a fun and varied selection of holiday music and seasonal favorites. This concert plays to huge crowds and continues to instill audiences with more and more holiday spirit each year.
This program, generously sponsored in part by Sterling Auto Group and Systek Computing, showcases an elegant arrangement of pieces from purely instrumental music and delightful choral arrangements, to bell choir works and more. The music selections run the gamut from spiritual to religious to popular holiday music. The evening’s production will conclude with a wonderful selection of sing-along holiday favorites.

“It is a treat to collaborate with the outstanding musicians of the CUMC Sanctuary Choir and Canticle Ringers, organist James Faith, and the CSHS Women’s Choir each year; we are so pleased with the addition of the Brenham Children’s Chorus this year,” said Executive Director Mary Koeninger. “We are excited to start off this holiday in a wonderful way with beautiful music featuring all the familiar tunes such as Away in a Manger, White Christmas, Joy to the World and much more.”
The Holiday Pops Concert is separate from the regular Symphony subscription season and is presented for those looking for a festive holiday outing with family and friends. The Symphony strives to provide its community members with memorable musical experiences, and this annual event is just one of the ways it reaches out to make that vision become a reality. The evening will end on a harmonious note with the complimentary cookie and beverage reception in the church foyer hosted by the Friends Association of the Symphony Orchestra. All concert attendees are invited to attend.
“We are very pleased to announce as well that we will have a very special guest conductor for the concert this year,” said Koeninger. “Dr. Tim Rhea, director of bands and music activities at Texas A&M University will be directing the BVSO Brass and Percussion musicians. He is one of the most highly honored conductors in the United States and we are thrilled to have him be a part of this wonderful Brazos Valley holiday tradition.”
