Fei Fei Dong - Medalist Van Cliburn Competition 2013
The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra is preparing for a 34th season of “Unforgettable Moments.” Music Director Marcelo Bussiki has planned the 2015-2016 subscription series to include five classical performances and will begin with a highly anticipated performance featuring Cliburn finalist Fei-Fei Dong performing with the BVSO to start the year off in fantastic style.
The opening concert will take place on Sunday, October 25, at 5pm in Rudder Theatre on the Texas A&M University campus. The first performance of the season, “Fei-Fei Plays Rachmaninoff” will feature Beethoven’s light-hearted and playful Symphony No. 8 and Rachmaninoff’s fiery Piano Concerto No. 3.
Chinese pianist Fei- Fei Dong has been charming audiences throughout the country and the world with her “passion, piquancy and tenderness” as well as her “winning stage presence” (Dallas Morning News). Dong was one of the featured artists in the 2015 documentary Virtuosity, chronicling the journey of gifted young pianists in their quest to make a name for themselves at the illustrious 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Maestro Bussiki says, “I had the opportunity to attend the Van Cliburn competition, and saw one of her performances. Although she did not win the Gold Medal, she was one of the most exciting pianists of the entire competition."
Executive Director, Mary Koeninger invites everyone in the community to come see the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra. “Every year, it seems that the quality of the BVSO’s live performances sets a new standard in musical excellence. This season will truly be filled with unforgettable moments, the first of which will be seeing Fei-Fei perform with us.”
Patrons can also enjoy a free, pre-concert lecture prior to the performance beginning at 4pm in the Rudder Theatre Complex. Audiences have enjoyed these informative and fun talks presented by the witty and entertaining Ann Thompson. After the concert, the evening continues with a patron social hour at Napa Flats, which includes complimentary appetizers and an appearance from Maestro Bussiki and Fei-Fei.
