The Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce’s Independence Day parade is back — with a slight twist. Featuring the theme “Let Freedom Ring,” a lighted parade will be held a day early, on Saturday, July 3 starting at 7:30 p.m.
“Our Board of Directors discussed the concept of a lighted parade as the Fourth falls on a Sunday this year,” says President Joel Romo. “It’s our desire to coordinate with other celebrations in the surrounding area. The concept has been well received around the community with a day full of activities in Chappell Hill leading up to the lighted parade that evening.
“We will host the Cool Rods Car Show once again, which will take place at 3 p.m. at the Poplar Lot downtown along with food vendors and live music by Rob Moorman & Company,” adds Romo.
Chappell Hill shops and restaurants will be open all day on July 3. The Chappell Hill Historical Society will also be selling hot dogs and sponsoring a petting zoo, and the museum will be open featuring live music from 4 to 7 p.m.
“We encourage everyone to join us for our lighted parade, Cool Rods Car Show, and, of course, the ‘World Famous Marching Kazoo Band’ which will return as part of our iconic parade,” Romo says. “Thanks to our sponsors, we have over $1,000 in prize money for parade and car show entries, and kazooers will receive an official kazoo and Kazoo Band t-shirt.”
Parking is free and will be available at the Main Street Parking Lot by the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department. All parade entries are due on Thursday, July 1 at 5 p.m. For entry forms and additional information, call (979) 421-6353 or visit the chamber’s website at chappellhilltx.com.
