On Thursday, August 25 , the National Coordinator of Family Place Libraries™ will be visiting the Clara B. Mounce Public Library. This will serve as the final step in certification as a member of the National System of Family Place Libraries™. By earning this designation, the Clara B. Mounce Public Library joins more than 400 sites across 27 states that have committed to serving as a hub for healthy child and family development within their community.

Staff at the Clara B. Mounce Public Library have been working for the past two years to earn the designation as a Family Place Library. Efforts included a number of significant initiatives including the development of an early literacy play-scape encouraging child development through play; collections of books, toys, music, and multimedia materials for babies, toddlers, parents, and service providers; a five-week program promoting healthy child development and early literacy; and much more!
Larry Koeninger, the Library Director, and Bobbee Pennington, the Family Literacy Librarian, traveled to the Family Place Training Institute in New York for a 3-day intensive training in Family Place Library principles and practices. Beyond this face-to-face instruction, online hours were also completed. In addition, supportive funding was sought and awarded through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission under the Library Services and Technology Act of 2015.
