The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra is pleased to celebrate the rich and joyous sounds of the season with the community for the ninth annual holiday themed concert. Led by Music Director Marcelo Bussiki, the “Holiday Pops Concert” will take place at 5pm on Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Christ United Methodist Church in College Station.
The Symphony’s Brass and Percussion musicians will be joined by organist James Faith, the Christ United Methodist Church Sanctuary Choir and Canticle Ringers, and the College Station High School Varsity Women’s Choir. All of these talented ensembles will grace the stage both individually and collectively with a fun and varied selection of holiday music and seasonal favorites.
This program, generously sponsored in part by Sterling Auto Group, Spirit of Texas Bank, and Systek Computing, showcases an elegant arrangement of pieces from purely instrumental music and delightful choral arrangements, to bell choir works and more.
The music selections run the gamut from spiritual to religious to popular Christmas carols, including multi-culturally inspired music.
The evening’s production will conclude with sing-along favorites including holiday classics like "O Come All Ye Faithful" and George Frideric Handel’s famous "Hallelujah Chorus."
“This is one of the concerts I look forward to the most each year. It is an honor to collaborate with the outstanding musicians of the CUMC Sanctuary Choir and Canticle Ringers, organist James Faith, and the CSHS Women’s Choir,” says Executive Director Mary Koeninger. “We are so excited to be a part of this wonderful holiday celebration. What a wonderful way to start off this holiday than beautiful music featuring all the familiar tunes such as Jingle Bells, Sleigh Ride, Silent Night, and much more.”
The “Holiday Pops Concert” is separate from the regular Symphony subscription season and is being presented for those looking for a festive holiday outing with family and friends. The Symphony strives to provide its community members with memorable musical experiences, and this annual event is just one of the ways it reaches out to make that vision become a reality.
The evening will end on a harmonious note with a complimentary cookie and beverage reception in the church foyer hosted by the Friends Association of the Symphony Orchestra. All concert attendees are invited to attend.
“I see this program as an opportunity to have a good time with the audience, since they are so familiar with the music,” says Music Director Marcelo Bussiki. “A good performance is all encompassing, the audience is part of the performance. The musicians and the conductor can feel the audience and there is a magical something that happens in quality live performances that is irreplaceable. Some performances are more conducive to reach this state of ‘communion’ than others and there is no more conducive music for that experience than holiday songs.”
