Piney Woods Fine Arts has a lot going on and this June is going to get hot. PWFAA will be offering something for everyone. With free concerts in the park, summer visual arts classes, and children’s theatre workshops, and performances, this summer is sure to be fun for everyone.
The return of the Jim Jeffries Summer Arts Workshop is June 8-12. The Summer Arts Workshop is a week-long workshop in the visual arts. Professional artists give instruction and demonstrations in such art forms as drawing, painting, sculpture, and more.
This year’s guest artists are coming from all over the state, Austin’s Johnny Villarreal with his stop-motion animation class called Imagination Station. San Antonio’s Trace Guthrie will be teaching sculpture and renowned muralist Charles Ingram will be teaching mural painting to students. Registration forms can be found online at www.pwfaa.org, area grade schools, the Jordan School and the Piney Woods Offices. Children exiting kindergarten through the eighth grade are welcome to attend. The Summer Arts Workshops are funded in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts.
Each summer Montana’s Missoula Children's Theater visits Crockett to produce an original musical featuring a local cast of up to 60 youngsters. The week-long project starts with auditions on Monday June 15, and culminate in two performances the following Saturday. Children aged 5-18 perform together under the instruction of two professional actors. Due to local financial support Piney Woods has been lucky to receive, children are able to participate at no charge. Registration forms are available online at www.pwfaa.org.
This summer’s show is "Blackbeard the Pirate" and auditions are Monday, June 15, from 10am to 12pm at the Crockett Civic Center with rehearsals all week. The performances are 3pm and 5:30pm Saturday, June 20.
