On Friday, May 2, Keep Brazos Beautiful honored and celebrated local environmental heroes whose time, resources, and energy have made the Brazos County and the cities of Bryan and College Station a wonderfully clean, green, beautiful, safe and healthy place to live, work, and play.
KBB awarded 20 awards to countless individuals, organizations, businesses, and government entities and employees, listed below.
The Community Stewardship Award recognizes an individual or organization whose efforts have had the greatest impact on improving our local community and its environment.
Recipient: Jeff Lehde
The N.E.A.T. Award (Neighborhood Environmental Action Team) is awarded to a neighborhood group or association who has demonstrated best practices in making their neighborhood environment clean, green, and beautiful.
Recipient: A&M Garden Club
The Good Neighbor Award is given to an individual or organization whose efforts had a measurable effect on the cleanliness, beauty, and environment of their neighborhood.
Recipients: Choya and Vicki Walling, and Tom Hughes
Keepers of the Kingdom Awards are given to City and County government agency employees whose efforts have supported KBB’s mission to keep it clean, green, and beautiful.
Recipients: Constable Jeff Reeves Precinct 1, City of College Station Sanitation Crew, City of Bryan Bulky Brush Crew
The Can Do Recycling Award is given to individuals or organizations whose efforts in waste minimization and recycling stand above the rest.
Recipient: Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley
The J.C. Jack Miller Institutional Beautification Award is given to institutions such as schools, churches, government entities, and not-for-profit’s whose landscaping is an outstanding example of beauty, design, maintenance, and cleanliness.
Recipient: Blinn College
The Miller Youth Award is provided by and named for KBB’s founders Dorothy S. and Jack Miller. This special award is given to an individual youth or group who has worked to improve our community’s environment by demonstration leadership that instills pride and creates a positive and sustainable impact on the community.
Recipients: Aggie Big Event and Zac Watson
The Tin Can Award is given to a group or organization that recruited the most volunteers for the Annual Don’t Mess with Texas Trash Off.
Recipients: Bryan Collegiate High School Green Team (51 team members!)
Volunteer of the Year Award goes out to an extraordinary volunteer who goes above and beyond while volunteering at KBB events.
Recipient: Paloma Mendez-Zaragoza
In addition to the awards, KBB also recognized the Sustained Community Partners who continue to support the KBB mission and efforts to improve the beauty and vitality of Bryan/College Station.
Recipients: Twin Oaks Landfill, Freebirds, Bryan Broadcasting, Apache Tree Foundation, Prosperity Bank, CC Creations, and Race Texas
