The Arts Council has announced the 2014 Twin City Properties Artist in Residence, Danika Ostrowski. Through August, Danika will be creating a body of artwork in the Creative Space in the basement of the Federal Building in Downtown Bryan. At the conclusion of her residency, she will showcase her work in a solo exhibition at The Arts Council’s Texas Gallery. Applicants from across Texas and the United States applied for the residency, and Danika was unanimously selected by the panel after a jurying and interview process.
Danika is drawn to both simple and complex thoughts about life. Her paintings release these thoughts onto physical substance, focusing not typically on subject matter itself but instead to the “emotion and quirk” of the character which she is reflecting. Danika primarily works with large scale, bold, acrylic paintings, and recently has been venturing into printmaking. Danika is currently a student in the Visualization Department at Texas A&M University and will graduate in December.
The Twin City Properties Artist in Residence program will allow Danika to focus on devoting her time and efforts into her artwork, letting her grow abundantly as an artist. Danika will also receive mentoring from area artists on subjects including marketing and show promotion and financial best practices.
