In conjunction with the City of Bryan Animal Center, and the Veterinary Technology program at Blinn College, The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley is excited to announce the arrival of its newest exhibit – The Family Pet Center. The exhibit features animal grooming supplies, lab equipment, dog kennels, veterinarian models, and a screen for veterinarian X-rays. Activities will include cleaning stuffed animals in the grooming station, determining which diet is best for which pet, identifying basic principles of animal care, identifying animal characteristics, examining specimens, live demonstrations and exhibitions of shelter animals, and engaging families in cooperative play and problem solving.
This exhibit was designed by Nathan Winchester Designs and is sponsored by the Blinn College Veterinary Technology Program and the City of Bryan Animal Center. The Family Pet Center will focus on how to demonstrate humane and responsible treatment of animals, and promote knowledge of the human-animal bond. It will also focus on demonstrating the roles of veterinarians in society as well as understanding the importance of animals to the environment. The Family Pet Center will provide creative learning opportunities for families who care for their pets in the Brazos Valley community.
“By engaging the community through a hands-on exhibit, the Bryan Animal Center is able to educate children and their families on the importance of pet wellness and share their ability to make a difference by adopting their fur-ever friend,” says City of Bryan Animal Center Supervisor Julianne Burkhalter about the new exhibit.
“Blinn College’s Veterinary Technology Program is excited to partner with the City of Bryan Animal Center and the Brazos Valley Children’s Museum on the Family Pet Center exhibit. This exhibit will highlight veterinary medicine, Blinn College, the Bryan Animal Center, but more importantly foster responsible pet ownership at an early age and showcase careers in the veterinary and animal health fields,” says David Sessum, of Blinn College. “Blinn’s students and faculty look forward to providing children and adults with a positive, engaging experience with this hands-on exhibit.”
