The Arts Council will host Krislyn Koehn, the 2020-2021 Bryan Artist in Residence, for Onwards/Inwards, an exhibition of her works, a mix of charcoal and digital media. The art show will be on display from May 18 to July 6 at 4180 Texas 6 Frontage Road in College Station and will mark the end of her yearlong residency with the Arts Council.
When asked to reflect on her time and upcoming exhibit, Krislyn stated, “My high-contrast, black and white pieces draw viewers into a play of light and dark, danger and ecstasy. I portray the storms, abyss, and overwhelming complexity of our natural world. By confronting the storms outside, we can make peace with our inner storms. It takes courage to accept the most complex and volatile parts of ourselves. As a material which has burned before and can burn brighter again, charcoal symbolizes that fortitude. I began this year-long residency looking outwards, and ended it looking inwards. This final show reflects that journey.”
The application for the 2021-2022 residency will close June 6, 2021. The person who is chosen to be the next Bryan Artist in Residence will have an opportunity to live and work in one of the newly built Kasparov Lofts, generously donated by BCS Modern. This program allows the artist to spend their time creating, experimenting, and adding to their portfolio. The term of each residency is roughly one year. The selected artist will live in a 750-square-foot apartment. Housing will include utilities (water, electricity, and internet). The artist will also receive a $3,000 stipend from The Arts Council to assist with groceries, fuel, and supply purchases, paid in full at the beginning of the residency.
