MSC OPAS will open the 2016-17 season on Saturday, August 27 with a concert by Lyle Lovett And His Large Band. A singer, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel, and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Whether touring as a "Duo" or with his "Acoustic Group" or "His Large Band," Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music. Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award, and was named Texas State Musician. His works, rich and eclectic, are some of the most beloved of any artist working today.
OPAS Executive Director Anne Black states, “Following Lyle’s concert with John Hiatt in Rudder Theatre last November, we were inundated with requests to bring him back with his large band. I’m thrilled we could make it happen! Late August is very early for us to open a season. But ticket sales are brisk. If you’re thinking about joining us on August 27 , please contact the box office as soon as possible!”
The “Expect the Unexpected” season continues in October with The Capitol Steps (October 13), Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live! (October 15), The Illusionists: Live From Broadway (October 18 and 19) and The Aluminum Show (October 23).
Ticket prices range from $30 to $100 (with special prices for students). For tickets, visit www.MSCOPAS.org or contact the MSC Box Office at (979) 845-1234.
