Not Afraid of the Dark will be performed Saturday, October 13, at 7pm in Rudder Auditorium.MSC OPAS will replace Strawberry Freckleface with Ballet Austin’s Not Afraid of the Dark – The Show That Glows! in the 2012-13 OPAS JR season. There will be one performance of Not Afraid of the Dark on Saturday, October 13, at 7pm in Rudder Auditorium.
OPAS Executive Director Anne Black says, “The representative of Freckleface recently informed us that the producers decided to cancel the 2012-13 tour because they did not want to sacrifice the artistic integrity of the show. We are hopeful that the wonderful production, that has enjoyed a lengthy and celebrated open-ended run in New York City, will be ready for touring sometime down the road. Obviously, it’s never easy to make an announcement like this. But we are very excited to welcome one of the most popular OPAS JR titles in our history back to Rudder Auditorium in October.”
Not Afraid of the Dark – The Show that Glows! was performed to a near-capacity crowd in Rudder Auditorium as a one-night-only event during the OPAS 30th anniversary season.
Not Afraid of the Dark-The Show that Glows!, an innovative and spectacular program, is the result of a two-and-a-half-year collaboration between Ballet Austin’s artistic director and choreographer Stephen Mills and nationally known children’s entertainer Joe Scruggs.
For many years Joe Scruggs has incorporated several “in the dark” songs into his children’s programs and has recognized the often intense fear that this elicits in some of his younger patrons.
Using an array of special lighting effects and dancing stickmen, Not Afraid of the Dark-The Show that Glows! seeks to dispel that fear and leave children (and adults too) with a lasting impression of the beauty and magic that can only happen when you turn out the lights.
Patrons who ordered tickets to Freckleface will be provided tickets to Not Afraid of the Dark. If patrons prefer not to attend the replacement event, they can contact the MSC Box Office to request a full refund.
