David the King, featuring large-scale paintings with collage elements by Dick Davison, will be on display at the Arts Council April 16 - May 23, 2024.
This exhibit includes paintings and constructions based on stories from the life of King David in the Bible. Davison takes inspiration from a trip to Israel in 2022, telling the story of King David in an unconventional way. Davison has long used collage as an experimental element in his drawings and studies, but only in the past few years has incorporated these strategies in his larger work. These paintings all incorporate collage elements as well as a variety of materials used in the construction of the supporting structures.
Richard R. Davison, Jr. is a professor emeritus of the College of Architecture faculty at Texas A&M University. He has established himself as one of the major artists in the state and distinguished himself nationally by having been featured in several national exhibitions. Most notably, he received the Texas A&M association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement award in Teaching and honorary induction into Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society, Alpha Alpha Chapter, Texas A&M University.
