The Walk & Talk is free, but it will be limited to 12 participants. Have you ever wanted to learn about the butterflies and flowers in your own backyard? On Wednesday, March 28, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 31, at 9 a.m. you can participate in a free dual activity. It begins on Wednesday evening at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History where Ro Wauer will present a program on “Butterflies and Flowers of Lick Creek Park.”
Saturday morning, Ro will also guide participants on a two-hour walk at Lick Creek Park to seek out the creatures from his talk.
Roland “Ro” Wauer is a butterfly expert and photographer and the author of over twenty-one books. He is a thirty-three year veteran of the National Park Service where he served as a ranger and interpreter as well as the Southwest Region Chief Scientist and the Chief of Natural Resource Management. His butterfly titles include Butterflies of West Texas Parks and Preserves and Butterflies of the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
Beautiful butterflies need something to eat! Wildflower nectar is on the menu for adults, while caterpillars munch on all sorts of plants. These flowers will be discovered alongside their butterfly prey as Monique Reed, an expert botanist in the Biology department at Texas A&M University, will be on hand to put names on all the items on the buffet.
The Saturday morning walk will be limited to 12 individuals. This butterfly talk and walk is co-sponsored by the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History and the Friends of Lick Creek Park.
The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History is open to visitors Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am-5 pm. For more information about this exhibit and other displays, events, programs and activities, please contact the Museum at 979-776-2195 or visit us on the web at www.brazosvalleymuseum.org.
