On Oct. 30, the Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce will host their annual Helicopter Ball Drop, when up to 600 golf balls will be dropped at the driving range of Pecan Lakes Golf Club in Navasota. The Golf Ball Drop is part of the 15th Annual Bob Whitten Memorial Golf Tournament that will be played immediately preceding the drop. The golf ball that lands closest to the pin or is the first to reach the hole will win its owner $1,000. All proceeds will benefit the Chamber of Commerce.
The golf balls, which are sold for $10 each, are numbered individually. The winning golf ball number will be announced at the tournament and posted on the Chamber Facebook page immediately following the contest.
Anyone may participate in the golf ball drop and the winner need not to be present to win. Participants are invited to Pecan Lakes Golf Club to watch the contest in person.
“We added the Golf Ball Drop in 2016 as a way for the entire community to participate at the annual golf tournament,” says Johnny McNally, executive director of the Navasota Grimes County Chamber. “It’s been a lot of fun and brought a new layer of excitement to the tournament.”
Golf balls are available for purchase online until Thursday, Oct. 29, and may be purchased at the tournament up until the helicopter arrives. The drop will be at approximately 6:30pm during dinner, followed by contest recognition and awards. For more information, visit www.navasotagrimeschamber.com or call (936) 825-6600.
