TradeCollege.org ranks Blinn’s Health Information Technology Program among the state leaders
TradeCollege.org, a website dedicated to sharing clear and objective information regarding trade schools and careers, has ranked the Blinn College District the No. 7 college in the state for health and medical administrative services education. The rankings were designed to reflect the quality and affordability of the listed programs.
“Blinn’s high ranking is a testament to the hard work and commitment that our faculty, staff, and students have for higher education and the field of health information,” says Michelle Trubenstein, dean of Health Sciences. “This has been a challenging year for healthcare workers and educators, but our outstanding programs continue to rise to the challenge.”
Blinn’s health information technology program offers an associate of applied science degree in health information technology, a medical billing and coding specialist certificate, and an occupational skills award in health information. All three tracks are available entirely online, offering students the flexibility to balance their education with family and work.
Health information professionals organize, prepare, analyze, and maintain patient health records. Students who complete Blinn’s health information technology program are prepared for careers as health information management technicians, coders, documentation specialists, revenue cycle specialists, credentialing specialists, birth certificate specialists, inpatient or outpatient coders, billers, patient advocates, chargemaster specialists, DRG auditors, patient access associates, insurance specialists, and revenue cycle specialists.Students who complete the AAS degree are eligible to sit for the Registered Health Information Technician certification exam credential offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Students who complete the certificate program can sit for the certified coding associate offered by the AHIMA or the certified professional coder credential offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, health information specialists earn a median salary of $44,090 per year, and employment is expected to grow 8% between 2019 and 2029.
