College Station ISD employees are breaking records in their giving to the district’s Education Foundation this year by pledging more than $127,000 through the Employee Giving Campaign.
“This is a 27 percent increase in total giving, and an 18 percent increase in participation over last year,” said Teresa Benden, CSISD Education Foundation executive director. “Receiving support from our teachers and staff is the biggest stamp of approval for us because they are the people we serve."
About half of all CSISD employees donate to the Education Foundation through payroll deduction. These funds are used to primarily support innovative teaching grants, Chrissy’s Closet, the Amy Anderson Literacy Legacy, and other educational programs. Half of any contributions that are made by staff at a school campus are donated back to the campus the following year to be used at the discretion of the principal with input from their staff.
The Education Foundation is celebrating its 20th birthday this year, and the district has opened a new middle school, which Benden says has fueled the increase in giving. A fun twist was also added this year to incentivize new givers and current donors to increase their giving. Participants were entered into a drawing for an iPad and 50” smart TV, respectively.
Established in 1999, the College Station ISD Education Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501, public corporation. Tax-deductible gifts made to the foundation provide funds for opportunities above and beyond the normal operating budget of the school district, and are not available through tax revenues. Its mission is to enrich teaching, inspire learning, and recognize the successes of the district’s students and teachers.
