Ten individuals with a combined 344 years of service to Bryan College Station will be inducted as the 2018 class of the College Station Noon Lions Club Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame recognizes Lion Club members who have spent at least 20 years in service and leadership. The 2018 honorees have each served about 3.5 decades as project volunteers, officers at various levels of the Lions Club organization, and chairs of major committees benefitting for children with special needs, the vision impaired, ,and local organizations.
The 2018 inductees are Michael Bolton, Fred Fisher, Dan Galvin, Ron Gay, Thom Holt, Jeannine Lomax, John Nichols, Dave Ruesink, Danny Stribling, and Bill Whitney.
They were recognized at a special noon luncheon on Monday, Oct. 8, at the Hilton College Station and Conference Center. Special guests included Sam Lindsey, past Lions Clubs international director, and Past International Director Joe Al Picone.
The guest speaker was Brandon Green, a program manager with the Texas Engineering Experiment Service. Green was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 10 and went on to have a successful collegiate and professional football career. A former athletic director at Brazos Christian School, he also works with Type 1 To Go, which supports teens with type 1 diabetes.
Diabetes awareness and education is a major health initiative for Lions Club International. People with diabetes are at risk of losing their sight to diabetes eye disease. The disease can lead to other complications including heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, leg amputation, and nerve damage.
This is the second year for the CSNL Hall of Fame. Last year 13 College Station Noon Lions were inducted as the inaugural class. Collectively, they represented 537 years of service.
Each honoree’s name will be added to a Hall of Fame banner that is displayed at club meetings. Each person also will receive a Hall of Fame plaque and a proclamation from the city of College Station. Additionally, each honoree’s photo, bio, and a copy of their proclamation will be added to the College Station Noon Lions Club Hall of Fame scrapbook.
