In the entry area of The Salvation Army Bryan College Station Chapel, a sign reads “A Lot Can Happen In Three Days.” While the sign is in preparation for the upcoming Easter holiday, it still stands true… A lot can happen in three days.
The Salvation Army B/CS Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team responded to Franklin, a town about 30 miles north of Bryan, that was recently hit by an EF3 tornado this past Saturday. The tornado is said to have damaged or destroyed 55 buildings, including four businesses and a church. The city of Franklin and surrounding areas of Robertson County have also been without electricity and water since the storm hit early Saturday afternoon.
The Salvation Army B/CS mobile kitchen, capable of serving between 1,500 and 2,000 meals per day, was deployed to Franklin along with members of the B/CS EDS team shortly after the storm hit the area. Over the past three days, the B/CS Salvation Army EDS team served food and spiritual/emotional care to survivors and first responders. The team has served three meals a day as well as drinks and snacks. Initial totals for The Salvation Army’s response for the past three days have been 2,080 meals, 1,250 snacks, and just under 1,800 drinks.
A Salvation Army mobile kitchen from Austin was also deployed in response to Franklin. An additional unit, also from Austin, was deployed to Alto to serve the affected area. As of Monday night, The Salvation Army is continuing to respond to the needs of the citizens and first responders. The Salvation Army will continue to provide services as long as there is a need within the community.
To make any monetary donations to The Salvation Army, go to the main office at 2506 Cavitt Avenue in Bryan between 9am and 4pm Monday through Thursday and 9am to 2pm on Friday.
