On Saturday, April 13, Texas A&M's Nautical Archaeology Program is putting on its annual open house, Shipwreck Weekend. From 10:30-11:30am, guest speaker Dr. Jennifer McKinnon from ECU will be giving a public lecture on her work on battlefield archaeology in the Pacific. From 12-4pm, the Nautical Archaeology Program is opening its labs to the public.
Ever wanted to learn what its like to be a nautical archaeologist? Well you're in luck! On Saturday, April 13, Texas A&M's Nautical Archaeology Program is putting on its annual open house, Shipwreck Weekend.
From 10:30-11:30am, guest speaker Dr. Jennifer McKinnon from ECU will be giving a public lecture on her work on battlefield archaeology in the Pacific. Dr. McKinnon has a background in historical and maritime archaeology and cultural heritage management. She has worked in the US, Australia, the Pacific, and Europe on sites ranging from the colonial period to WWII.
From 12-4pm, the Nautical Archaeology Program is opening its labs to the public. Come see the work that gets done in these labs and talk to the actual archaeologists who work in them. Shipwreck Weekend has fun activities for the whole family, including a scavenger hunt, mini-excavations, trying on SCUBA gear, constructing craft ships, and much more!
