The George Bush Presidential Library Foundation has announced the winners of the 2015 USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) Scholarship.
Each recipient received a $2,500 college scholarship for the undergraduate or graduate program at a college of their choice. The winners of the 2015 USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) Scholarships were: LTJG Corey Alderman - Graduate Candidate; and Emily Clifford - daughter of Commander Paul Clifford, Undergraduate Candidate.
“We are pleased to award these scholarships to Emily and Corey. Their connection to the George H.W. Bush allows us to recognize the importance President Bush places on education and public service,” says Frederick D. McClure, the Chief Executive Officer of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation.
To honor President George Bush’s commitment to public service, the Board of Directors of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation established three $2,500 college scholarships for crew or family members of the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77). One scholarship is awarded for undergraduate study and the other two are for graduate study – one specifically to attend the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, the second is open to any graduate program in the United States. The scholarships are aimed at recognizing and encouraging President Bush’s commitment to public service, which he has referred to as a noble calling. Scholarships are one time payments payable in the fall semester of the year in which the scholarship is granted. These scholarships are open to crew or air wing members of the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) and their family members.
To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (B+ average) and an exemplary record in school and community activities.
