The Langford in College Station is a retirement and assisted living community for people older than the age of 65. This Continuing Care Retirement Community puts a huge emphasis on community and family.
With 95 percent of its complex finished, The Langford has begun moving residents in, according to Matthew Currie, The Langford's regional vice president and executive director.
This retirement community features four different condo home floor plans. All units are equipped with a full kitchen with a double sink, adjustable shelves in each closet, walk-in closets in the master bedrooms, and full washer and dryer. The complex is also pet-friendly.
Within each restroom there are emergency pull cords in the bathrooms. In the living rooms there are Status Solution and Occupancy Sensors, which are non-invasive motion detectors that monitor movement in the rooms to ensure the safety of all residents.
"If motion isn't detected for eight hours our staff will come and do a courtesy check to make sure the resident is ok," says Ron Jennette, president and chief executive officer.
Within each building of The Langford there are 24 apartments with six units on each floor. There is a total of four floors in each building. The Langford features four different floor plans starting at 1000 square feet. The largest floor plan goes up to 1450 square feet.
Each resident has their own mailbox and locked storage area. Every apartment gets one space in the parking garage. There is a community room in each of The Langford buildings for people that live in the building. Here residents are able to meet with neighbors and friends for game nights, potlucks, and other gatherings, according to Kathy Deleon, marketing director.
"It is impossible to get depressed here, because the staff is so nice. The residents are so nice," says Jennette. "We are a family."
The Langford offers a 24-hour concierge. They also have a clubhouse for its residents to socialize and dine. Inside The Langford clubhouse is their Bistro. Here they serve breakfast and lunch at the counter. In the evening, dinner is served in a formal dining style. Residents are able to drink coffee, use laptops, and connect with other residents.
"We are creating a space for community," says Deleon.
This community also offers a private dining room, which, like the already stated amenities, is complimentary. There is also an onsite game lounge for game days and activities for active residents. For residents who want to either stay healthy or get fit, The Langford offers an onsite gym. The equipment in the Fitness Studio is specially purchased to be senior-friendly. There is also staff available to teach residents how to use the equipment, according to Jennette.
“With the gym residents can be in better shape than they were before joining The Langford community,” says Deleon.
The Langford also offers an auditorium, which can be used for special speakers, crafts, Bible study, chapel service, and more, according to Deleon.
The center courtyard is an outdoor space with TV’s, projectors, sunshades and grills. There will also be a fire pit area located in the courtyard. One of the main purposes of the courtyard is to create a space for fostering a community.
Many of the residents are retired professors or graduates of Texas A&M University. Some Langford residents reside in the area because their children are attending school, according to Jennette. There are also many World War II veterans who reside at The Langford. This alone offers residents with a little piece of history, says Jennette.
The Langford is a Methodist community that opens its doors to every denomination. Residents will feel safe knowing that their plan for future care is well taken care of. The Langford is focused on hospitality and serving seniors. Their reputation in College Station is that people know they will be well cared for as they age, according to Deleon.
The common goal at The Langford is to serve, according to Jennette. "All of our communities are nonprofit and we have always been nonprofit. It's all about us serving other people."
