Make a difference this fall as a volunteer coach or help with Parks and Recreation programs and service projects. We have opportunities for individuals, groups, students, and businesses to contribute meaningfully to our high-quality programs and facilities.
Volunteers must submit a waiver and be at least 16 years old unless otherwise noted. Those younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Here are five opportunities for you to get involved:
Volunteer Day: Invasive Plant Pulls
Make a difference for water, wildlife, and wild places at Lick Creek Park from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays on Oct. 14, Nov. 11, and Dec. 9. Volunteer alongside members of the Post Oak Chapter of the Native Plant Society and the Brazos Valley Texas Master Naturalist to remove invasive plants, helping preserve the park’s unique ecosystems and demonstration gardens.
Bring gloves, a reusable water bottle, and your favorite garden tools. We’re happy to provide certificates as proof of hours. Sign up at the Nature Center or call 979.764.6216.
Annual Fall Fest & Haunted House
The Lincoln Recreation Center hosts its Annual Fall Fest & Haunted House on Thursday, Oct. 19. Multiple volunteer shifts are available from 4-9 p.m. to help with set-up, carnival games, face painting, joy jumps, and more.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear family-friendly costumes and closed-toe shoes. All shifts are outdoors, and volunteer vests are provided. You can park at the Wayne Smith Athletic Complex, a short walk at 107 Holleman Drive. Sign up online or call 979.764.3779. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 13.
Christmas in the Park
Christmas in the Park returns Dec. 1-2 at Stephen C. Beachy Central Park. Each day, multiple outdoor shifts are available from 4:15-10:30 p.m. to help with hayrides, cookies, hot cocoa, photos with Santa, snow slides, and more. Bilingual volunteers are also needed for information booths.
Dinner and volunteer vests are provided. Parking is available at Post Oak Mall (the JC Penney side), and shuttles run from 4 p.m.-midnight. Sign up online or by calling 979.764.3540. The registration deadline is Monday, Nov. 27.
Youth Basketball Coach
Teach basketball fundamentals and help kids develop skills while learning the value of hard work, practice, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Experience isn’t required, and we provide the resources for a fun and successful season.
The league runs from Dec. 4-March 7 and requires a three-day-a-week commitment. The league breaks for the holidays from Dec. 18-Jan. 7. Games are played on weeknights between 6:30-9:30 p.m., and Saturday practices are between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Apply online or call 979.764.3486. You must be at least 18 years old and complete a background check.
Group Service Projects
Help clean and beautify our community! Worthy single-day and annual projects are available for any group size or type. Projects include park and creek cleanups, planting, and weeding. Staff members review your request and identify the best project for your group.
Groups must have at least one adult supervisor for children under 18. To sign up, complete the group service project form and email it to parks@cstx.gov.
