Light of Her Children: My Life with 19 Siblings by Ron Netwon In 1939 in Colorado, Ronald James Newton was a bit of a phenom. He and his two brothers were the second set of triplets born in the state of Colorado. Not only that, but Newton would eventually be one of 20 siblings — all from the same parents. In Light of Her Children: My Life with 19 Siblings, Newton describes what it was like growing up in rural Colorado during the middle of depression-era United States.
The memoir is written so that it feels like a work of fiction. The story moves along seamlessly from one event to the next, and it’s easy to get caught up and forget that everything actually happened! Newton has a fantastic voice, whether he’s talking about playing basketball on the way to a state championship alongside his brothers or working the neighbor’s farm with friends and family to earn some extra spending money. By the end of it, you will feel as if you grew up with Ron and his 19 siblings, too.
Light of Her Children is the first of two books Newton has written about his life. Both Light of Her Children and the sequel, Here’s the Score: A Brothers’ Journey to Basketball Stardom, are available through Amazon.
