If you’re a senior adult looking for a new activity or skill to pick up, join the Southwood Community Center for their fall activities. They are open 8am to 5pm on weekdays. Whether it’s dancing, board games, or a potluck, there are tons of new ways to get involved and active in the Bryan College Station community.
Reoccurring Fall 2018 Events Beginning Line Dance Workshop
Learn the steps and terminology associated with line dancing. Mondays 10:30 to 11:30am
Beginners Tap Dance Learn basic steps and terminology with Sue Engbrock. Tap shoes are recommended. Thursdays, Oct. 4-Dec. 13 1:30 to 2:30pm
Beginner Mixed Martial Arts and Self-Defense Beginners martial arts class focusing on Taekwondo and Jujitsu principles. Fridays, Oct. 5-Dec. 14 3:30 to 4:30pm
Bible Study Search, study, and grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Thursdays 9:15 to 10am
Bingo Play a game of bingo. The winners will receive homemade cookies. 2nd Thursday of each month 10:30 to 11:30am
Birthday Celebration Enjoy a potluck lunch and fellowship on the last Friday of each month. Last Friday of each month 11am to 1pm
Bridge Beginners and experienced players are invited; no partner necessary. Fridays 9 to 11:30am
Chair Exercise Participants follow an exercise video where they will be sitting in a chair, strengthening their muscles. Last Wednesday of each month 10 to 11am
Chronic Pain Self-Management Go over fatigue management, pacing and planning activities, getting a good night’s sleep, better breathing, and more. Mondays, Oct. 22-Nov. 19 10am to 12:30pm Mondays, Oct. 29-Nov. 26 10:30am to 1pm
Classic Country and Bluegrass Jam Session Musicians, regardless of experience level, are welcome to join. Country and bluegrass music fans are also encouraged to attend. Tuesdays 1:30 to 3:30pm
Community Outreach Project: Local Churches Hour Join for an hour of worship and celebration with special guests from local churches. Enjoy gospel singers, church choirs, and community leaders from the area. 2nd Sunday of each month Times Vary
Computer Club Learn more about the world of computers and technology. 1st Wednesday of each month 9:30 to 11am
Computer Lab Utilize the computer lab whenever a class is not in session. Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm
Exploring History Luncheons Monthly lectures on the history of the community. 3rd Wednesday of each month 11:30am to 1pm
Fitness Center Use the cardio machines, a weight-training circuit, and a range of other equipment. Monday through Friday 9am to 1pm
Foreversize Encourages individuals to adopt healthy lifestyle practices through practicing strength building, cardio, and nutrition education. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 1:30 to 3pm
Game Night An evening of dominoes, cornhole, cards, board games, and table tennis. Tuesdays 7 to 9pm
Hand and Foot Canasta All levels are invited to learn how to play this card game. 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month 12 to 4pm
Hot Lunch A healthy, well-balanced lunch served daily. Monday through Friday 11:30am to 12:45pm
Learn to Play 42 Become a professional at this domino game during weekly educational sessions. Wednesdays 8:30 to 11:30am
Line Dancing A fun, low-impact way to get an aerobic workout. Tuesdays and Fridays 10:30 to 11:30am
Mah Jongg Come learn the basics of skill, strategy, and calculation. Thursdays 9 to 11:30am
Movie and Popcorn Enjoy newly released films and popcorn with friends. 3rd Thursday of each month 1 to 3pm
Nutrition Education Texas A&M Agrilife Extension offers cooking demos with recipes and food choices for healthy living. 3rd Tuesday of each month 10 to 11am
Sit and Fit A gentle exercise, using a chair for support, that features fat-burning aerobics and weight lifting. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 12 to 1pm
Senior Advisory Committee This committee is to address the needs of older adults living in College Station and offers program and activity suggestions to the College Station Parks and Recreation Department. Last Monday of each month 9:30 to 11am
Storytelling Share memories and tell tales of intrigue. Learn how to tell stories to inspire and connect with others. Fridays, Sept. 14-Oct. 5 2 to 3pm
Table Games and Dominoes Enjoy a variety of board games, cards, dominoes, spades, and pool. Monday through Friday 9am to 12:30pm
