The Brazos Valley African American Museum will hold its 20th annual Appreciation Banquet as a "Virtual Appreciation Event" on Saturday, March 27 at 6 p.m.
The ever-popular Appreciation Banquet typically happens in person in order to help provide the financial support required for the museum to operate, offer quality programs and exhibitions, and celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to the Brazos Valley and beyond. Due to COVID-19, this event has been transitioned into a virtual experience with speaker and honoree presentations.
The event recognizes outstanding community citizens and highlights their accomplishments. Ebony Peterson — the co-founder of Black Lives Matter B/CS — will be the featured speaker for the event. The honorees include Helen Chavarría, former Bryan city councilmember; Essie Childers, Blinn College professor; Al Pulliam, a senior director of development with the Texas A&M Foundation; Anjuli “AJ” Renold, executive director at American Red Cross; and Reverend Derron Robinson of Bryan ISD. There will also be a silent auction to fundraise.
