The Visual Art Society of Bryan-College Station has announced the unveiling of the Aggieland Art Trail, which will launch on Saturday, September 11, 2021. The Art Trail will showcase artworks, murals, monuments, and more throughout the Bryan/College Station Community. The launch will begin with a kick-off breakfast at POV Coffee House at the Stella Hotel in Bryan and will span the entirety of the day, ending with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in College Station.
“Art surrounds us! We are excited to host an extended event highlighting galleries and outdoor art throughout the Bryan-College Station area,” said Dr. Carol Fox Henrichs, president of the Visual Art Society of Bryan-College Station. “Our goal for the Aggieland Art Trail is to raise awareness of the visual arts which are plentiful throughout our communities.”
The Visual Art Society of Bryan-College Station is a local volunteer, non-profit organization that is nearly 50 years old. The Society is dedicated to providing opportunities for local artists of all ages and skill levels to explore, develop, and market their creations. Through events and educational programming, the Visual Art Society strives to foster appreciation of visual art and raise awareness about the relevance and intrinsic value of the visual arts in our community. The society also holds art shows, teaches workshops, awards scholarships to high school seniors, and hosts fundraising events.
The Aggieland Art Trail will span the entire Bryan/College Station area, showcasing the many art galleries; public art and installations in the community, including 15+ murals and 40 public statues; and artworks and statues throughout the Texas A&M University campus and the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. The kick-off will also feature a special Veterans’ Day dedication ceremony for the War on Terror Statue at the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial. Participants will navigate the trail at their own pace with downloadable “passports,” which will include maps guiding them to “stops” throughout the BCS community. Each stop will feature a different gallery, public art installation, or statue. On opening day, guides will be present at the breakfast and at galleries along the trail to provide additional details about pieces and featured installations. Additionally, an event hosted by LIVEart, a community-based arts event curator, will be featured as a part of the Art Trail. Click here for the latest list of stops.
“The Aggieland Art Trail will give the BCS community an accessible way to view the abundance of visual art and art installations throughout the local area,” said Mindy Austin, Publicity Chair of the Visual Art Society of Bryan-College Station. “We are highly anticipating the launch of the Art Trail and look forward to welcoming folks to check it out in September.” The Visual Art Society looks forward to unveiling the Aggieland Art Trail and hopes the community will join them on September 11th for its official kickoff.
