They are now featuring an ongoing display of the works produced by the members of the Brazos Spinners & Weavers Guild. They do ask that everyone wear a mask and follow COVID protocols. Join MSC Forsyth Galleries in the Learning Gallery Fridays in July at 10 a.m. for an art-themed story and a project. Recommended for ages three to six, their story time experience is second to none. They feature large, projected illustrations and surround sound in a museum setting, perfectly cozy for adults and kids alike. Art projects are book-themed and encourage adults to create alongside kiddos. Look out for Talent, Technology, and Technique on June 29 to Sep. 12. Artistic expression is a combination of time and place, training, the surrounding artistic tradition, and an artist’s life experience. But truly great art only happens when a unique talent is able to transcend what is expected when working with their chosen medium. Examining how talented artists used new technologies and incredible techniques to make their mark, this exhibition features more than 60 works that will attempt to answer the question: How did they do that?
MSC Stark Galleries Movable Mosaics; Interactive Floral Interpretations is May 27 to Aug. 8. Created by students of Horticulture. Located at 451 Wm J. McKinley. Departing from the typical floral interpretation of another work of art, design students in Horticulture 451 were tasked with creating 12” x 12” pavé mosaic designs to interpret only a small section of the associated art piece. This interactive exhibit was created to encourage visitors to actively arrange the mosaic floral designs to best represent the associated art piece, move pieces to suit their personal aesthetics, and challenge them to determine how each mosaic piece fits in the overall interpretation.
Stark Galleries Eye of the Beholder: Portrait Artists and their subjects will be May to Aug 22. This exhibition examines portraiture, the artists who make them, and their subjects. A very old art form going back to ancient Egypt, portraiture enabled the recording of the appearance of someone. Whether painted, sculpted, drawn, or photographed, portraits have always been more than just a record. They have been used to show the importance, beauty, wealth, taste, learning, or other qualities of the sitter. Visitors can compare and contrast how different artists portrayed their sitter, contemplate how different media impact the portrait, and learn something about who the people who sat for their portraits.
The MSC Visual Arts Committee is proud to present Revival: Visualizing Natural History Specimens in Art and Science. On display from June 16 to Sep. 25, the exhibition demonstrates the capability of CT scanning technology to preserve and understand biological specimens. Through scanning technology, access to specimens is increased across a multitude of fields and disciplines. Admission is free. For more information, visit vac.tamu.edu.
