After the success of the summer adult class, The Arts Council of Brazos Valley (ACBV) has brought back adult art classes for the fall semester. The nonprofit will host seven adult art classes on Oct. 2, 9, and 16; Nov. 4, 6, and 13; and Dec. 4.
Community members are invited to try something new and expand their skills by taking one (or more) of the classes. No experience is necessary, and supplies are provided.
The class schedule is as follows:
Gouache Painting with Kelsey Boe Saturday, Oct. 2 | 1–3:30 p.m. Join local artist Kelsey Boe to create four stunning and aesthetic gouache paintings to display in your own DIY gallery wall. All levels are welcome. $45
Modern Calligraphy with Jenny Blaschke Saturday, Oct. 9 | 1–3 p.m. Learn the basics of modern calligraphy, including the art of envelope addressing. Take home your own modern calligraphy workbook and supplies to continue practicing at home. $70
Color me a Rainbow; Pastel Portraits with Jami Bevans Saturday, Oct. 16 | 1–4 p.m. Jami Bevans will demonstrate how to use all the colors in the rainbow as an underpainting of pastels to create more realistic skin tones. Practice first on gray bogus paper to get the idea, then transfer knowledge to creating your own portrait. Participants are encouraged to bring a printed photo of themselves, friends or family members. $45
Hand Paint Holiday Ornaments with Cindy Kovar Thursday, Nov. 4 | 5:30–7:30 p.m. Come relieve stress from the workweek by painting a baker’s dozen of ornaments. $45
Exploring Abstract and Non-Representational Art with Saskia Becker Saturday, Nov. 6 | 1–3 p.m. This class explores some of the fundamentals of abstract and non-representational art. Participants will make different kinds of abstract art and learn how to better understand different kinds of non-representational art. $40
Color Theory with Emily Laughlin Saturday, Nov. 13 | 1–3 p.m. Explore the foundational knowledge of Color Theory during this fun afternoon class that covers the basics of choosing colors as well as practicing various color combinations. $35
Block Printing Gift Wrap with Kelsey Boe Saturday, Dec. 4 | 1–3:30 p.m. Join artist Kelsey Boe for a holiday-themed block-printing workshop. Learn how to carve your own printing plates and create festive paper for a handmade touch on your gifts this season. Open for all skill levels, targeted towards beginners. $45
