With only two actors on the cast list, the Blinn College-Bryan Campus Theatre Arts Program is sure to give audiences a personal perspective in the coming-of-age drama, I and You.
Blinn will present Laura Gunderson’s sentimental comedy at 7:30pm April 5, 6, 10, and 11, and at 2pm Sunday, April 7, in Bryan Campus Student Center Room F-120 (map).
Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for the general public. All theatre performances are open seating. Tickets can be purchased at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice. Directed by Theatre Instructor Jean Daniels, I and You follows the musings of two high school classmates unexpectedly partnered together to complete a class assignment. Caroline, a homebound student with a serious illness, must somehow collaborate with athletic and popular Anthony, even though their views about life could not be more different.
“The four walls of Caroline’s room are her reality, and she has been dependent on herself for her source of happiness for so long,” said theatre major Elisha Lovett, who plays Caroline. “This all changes when she meets Anthony. There is a surprising twist to the story that makes the ending unforgettable.”
I and You is the winner of the 2014 American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award and a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, an annual award that recognizes female playwrights. Gunderson also was recognized as the most produced playwright in the country for the 2017-18 season.
“This play captured my attention, because the characters’ age and perspective so closely coincides with our college students,” Daniels said. “I and You is about making connections. Whether you are an adolescent or parent, this play will touch the audience on all levels.”
To complement its 2018-19 performances, the Blinn-Bryan Theatre Arts Program has piloted the Blinn-Bryan Theatre Troupe, an interactive educational outreach program that brings live theatre and educational tools and exercises into local schools, community centers, libraries, and retirement communities. Consisting of Blinn theatre students, the troupe creates short, interactive theatre experiences to encourage cultural and interactive exchange in the community.

Blinn’s Theatre Arts Program hosts a variety of performances each year on its Bryan and Brenham campuses, and offers a quality educational foundation through study, application, and experience.
