Blinn College will celebrate a half century of theatre education and performance with a special production, “Glitter and Gold: 50 Years of Theatre.”
“We are celebrating five decades as an official theatre arts program with two special presentations that will be reminiscent of the annual Tony Awards,” said Brad Nies, Theatre Arts Director.
Shows begin at 7pm Saturday, Nov. 19, and 2pm Sunday, Nov. 20, in the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center on the Blinn-Brenham Campus. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students with ID. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice, by calling (979) 830-4024, or by emailing BoxOffice@blinn.edu.
Featuring performers from Blinn’s Brenham and Bryan campuses, “Glitter and Gold” will include song, dance, and a variety of scenes performed by current and former students and performing arts faculty. Blinn’s technical theatre arts also will be celebrated.
Former student Katie Cross will emcee the show. Former theatre students have been invited to attend the performances and a special reception after Sunday’s performance.
“The Bryan Campus will be taking part in our tech weekend, dance numbers, and running lights for the show,” Nies said.
Nies and Bryan Theatre Arts Director Greg Wise will direct the performance. Kevin Patrick and Jean Daniels will oversee technical direction, and Jennifer Patrick will serve as choreographer, music director, and costume, make-up, and hair designer.
Dr. Wilford Dietrich, whose wife Dr. Bobbie Marrow Dietrich served as Theatre Arts Director at Blinn College between 1966 and 1990, will attend as a special guest.
The performance will include songs from plays like, “The Taming of the Shrew,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and “A Piece of My Heart.”
“For five decades, Blinn’s Theatre Arts Program has entertained, engaged, and delighted audiences,” Nies said. “Join us as we celebrate with a great party that toasts the next 50 years of theatre at Blinn.”
