The Arts Council of Brazos Valley (ACBV) hosts the Body X Landscape from July 20 to August 12, 2021. The newest Main Gallery exhibit is the culmination of the time that College Station Artist-in-Residence Trevor Coopersmith has spent with the program. The gallery reception for this exhibit is July 29th, 2021, from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Body X Landscape explores the juxtapositions between humanity and the natural world. The gallery will include an interactive piece entitled Celestial Navigations, which invites the viewer to be part of the experience. When asked why he wanted to create an interactive experience, Trevor said he was “inspired by a student on the autism spectrum. This interactive piece was created in hopes to explore the most intuitive and youthful parts of ourselves. Drawing with chalk is primarily a childhood experience, but how often are we given the opportunity to scribble carelessly as we enter adulthood? In order to find answers to the complex questions of existence and everyday life, [I want people to consider themselves] a part of the piece."
Trevor Coopersmith is the founder of the Urban Art Scholarship Foundation and holds a bachelor's degree in art from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Coopersmith was recently accepted to the University of London Goldsmiths MFA program but has withdrawn to pursue his artistic career elsewhere. He has exhibited internationally, online and is a current artist-in-residence in College Station, Texas.
