Being an author was not originally in the cards for Dawn Husted, who originally majored in human resources and minored in business in college. But after having her first born, Dawn says she began reading during her free time and quickly learned that she enjoyed the hobby. Before long, she started to dive into the resources about writing and continued practicing before publishing a few books.
Now the author of six books, Dawn says writing is one of her true passions, where she can share stories in her favorite genres: science fiction, fantasy, romance and thrillers. Her newest release, “Radiant Origin,” has hit stands across the country sharing the story of Phyre Brown, an ordinary teenager searching for love and adventure; her world quickly changes when a tragic accident reveals her true identity as an alien with healing powers and now she must explore this newfound power while navigating love and power.
“The book began with Phyre’s special blood type,” Dawn says. “I wanted to create a world that mixed reality with fantasy, and I’ve always been enthralled with the idea of aliens who appear as human as you and me.”
The story not only shares about Phyre’s power but also reveals a love triangle, which Dawn says was a driving force when she began her writing.
“I really like sci-fi and romance,” Dawn says. “I wanted to find a way to create a sci-fi world in today’s reality while also having everyday things that people experience like home schooling and sibling bonds.”
With the start of the book based here in College Station, Dawn says she encourages local readers to pick up a copy to get a little sense of familiarity.
“It’s just a fun read, and it’s the fact that it actually involves College Station in the beginning, there’s not many books that you can say I know where that road is,” Dawn says. “I like to picture myself at that same spot, and then I’m able to dive into a world that will take you on a journey."
Those interested in meeting Dawn should save the date for Teen Bookfest by the Bay, a book festival taking place in Corpus Christi on Feb. 24. The festival is open to the public and during Dawn will be participating in three panel sessions and signing books throughout the day.
“Radiant Origin” is available as an e-book and paperback on Amazon and as a e-book through Barnes & Noble. For more information about Dawn, visit dawnhusted.com.
