The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History will host a meet-and-greet welcome reception for its new curator of exhibits and collections, Dr. Rebecca Ingram, on Tuesday, April 14, from 4:30-6:30pm. The public is invited to join in welcoming Ingram into the Museum and Bryan/College Station family. The evening will feature light refreshments, live music by Johnny and Lise McNally, and a chance to personally meet Dr. Ingram.
Dr. Rebecca Ingram brings a diverse skill set to the position of curator at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History. She earned her MA and PhD in Anthropology at Texas A&M University, specializing in Nautical Archaeology. Working with museums, archaeological excavations, and research projects in Turkey, Israel, and the U.S., she has engaged in the hands-on study of such diverse materials as Pleistocene mammals, Late Bronze Age glass, and 19th-century American steamboats.
A research associate with the Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) at Texas A&M University, Dr. Ingram spent several years working with the INA team at the Theodosian Harbor excavations in Istanbul, Turkey; this project, under the direction of the Istanbul Archaeological Museums, was one of the world’s largest archaeological excavations at the time. At this major urban rescue excavation, she helped to document and dismantle eight well-preserved Byzantine-period shipwrecks (7th to 10th century A.D.); for her doctoral dissertation, she conducted a detailed study of a 7th-century shipwreck from the site.
Dr. Ingram speaks German and Turkish, and she is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She continues to write, edit, and proofread for archaeology publications and to serve as a historian for expedition travel in the Aegean region and along the Dalmatian Coast.
