The Brazos Valley Symphony will celebrate the rich and joyous sounds of the season with its fourth annual presentation of “Holiday Brass & Organ Spectacular.” Led by Music Director Marcelo Bussiki, the event will take place at 5pm on Sunday, December 9, at the Christ United Methodist Church in College Station. The Symphony’s Brass musicians will be joined by: James Faith on organ, the Christ United Methodist Church Sanctuary Choir and The Canticle Bells, and guest vocals from the Blinn Choir and the A&M Consolidated Middle School Girls Choir. Soprano, Kaylie Kahlich also returns for an encore and promises another heart-stirring performance.
This program, generously sponsored in part by Sterling Auto Group and Spirit of Texas Bank, showcases an elegant arrangement of pieces from purely instrumental music and delightful choral arrangements, to soprano solos, bell choir pieces and more. The evening’s production will conclude with sing-along favorites including holiday classics like Away in the Manger, Silent Night and George Frideric Handel’s famous Hallelujah Chorus.

Maestro Bussiki and the other Directors have enjoyed partnering together to create this unique program and are looking forward to delivering high quality entertainment that evokes the essence of the holidays.
“One of the best things the Symphony does for this concert is collaborate with other musical talent in the Brazos Valley. Not only does the Symphony get to showcase our brass musicians, we get to showcase other outstanding artists and groups from right here in our community,” said Bussiki.
The art of planning the annual program’s playbill includes introducing new elements or groups into the musical presentation that will delight audiences. The Blinn Choir is the newest element being added to the holiday program this year.
Chris Hoffman, Director of the Blinn Choir said, “The Blinn Choir is very excited to have the privilege of performing with the Symphony musicians and the other choirs. The Choir on the Bryan campus, still relatively new with only four years of existence, is a group that allows students from all walks of life to come together and sing great music spanning different genres. The fact that they get to sing with members of the BVSO is thrilling . . . The Blinn Choir and myself are excited to be able to share our love for singing with our community and with our musical colleagues.”
The “Holiday Brass & Organ Spectacular” is not a part of the regular Symphony subscription season and is being presented for those looking for a joyous holiday outing with family and friends. “The idea behind the ‘Holiday Brass & Organ Spectacular’ is to offer patrons the opportunity to enjoy a delightful concert full of familiar tunes and grand classics that blend beautifully into the atmosphere of the season,” says Bussiki. The Symphony strives to provide its community members with memorable musical experiences, and this annual event is just one of the ways it reaches out to make that vision become a reality.
“I believe this event is now looked at as almost a kickoff to the holiday season here in B/CS,” said James Faith, who has partnered with Bussiki each year to bring this concert to the community. “People tell me they come expecting to leave the concert with a true sense of the holiday spirit.”
The evening will end on a harmonious note with a cookie and beverage reception in the church foyer hosted by the Friends Association of the Symphony Orchestra. All concert attendees are invited to attend.
