The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra will help usher in the holiday season with its annual “Holiday Pops Concert” on Sunday, Dec. 13 at the Christ United Methodist Church, beginning at 5pm. However, due to the recent increase in COVID cases, a determination has been made not to have a live audience in attendance.
Music Director Marcelo Bussiki will conduct the Symphony’s Brass and Percussion sections with organist James Faith, the Christ United Methodist Church Sanctuary Choir and The Canticle Ringers. The symphony strives to provide its community members with memorable musical experiences, and this annual event is just one of the ways it reaches out to make that vision become a reality.
"In a year marked by so much sadness in our communities, when our patrons went away and our instruments became silent, this holiday concert takes on a special meaning,” says Bussiki. “We celebrate with music the gift and joy of a hopeful future. There can be no more soothing music to our souls than our traditional holiday tunes. It is in that spirit that we invite our community to share the sounds of this season with joy and happiness the old fashion way.”
The concert has been tastefully programmed to include selections of cherished sacred music such as “O Holy Night” and “Joy to the World,” along with time-honored holiday favorites “White Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” and “Jingle Bells” — just to name a few.
Patrons can still enjoy the concert through the VIA VIDEO option, which is currently available for purchase. Those who already purchased tickets to attend the event live will be automatically enrolled into the VIA VIDEO option. This option is an important BVSO initiative to make sure as many people as possible can enjoy concerts during the current health crisis.
While the “Holiday Pops Concert” will be filmed on Dec. 13, VIA VIDEO ticket holders can expect to receive an email with the video link four days later — so they may enjoy the concert in the privacy and safety of their own homes.
VIA VIDEO tickets for the Holiday Pops Concert can be purchased in person at the MSC Box Office, located in the Rudder Tower lobby, by phone at (979) 845-1234, or online at boxoffice.tamu.edu and bvso.org. The VIA VIDEO ticket is $35.
Patrons with any questions are encouraged to call the BVSO office at (979) 696-6100 during regular business hours.
