Camp Hearne is located north of Hearne off of FM 845. Camp Hearne is sponsoring its first amateur radio field event in the POW Camp Theatre Saturday, May 19, from 10am to 4pm. The event will include a look at World War II history through the eyes of former POW Heino Erichsen and Bremond-based storyteller Arthur Burnett.
Guests will enjoy museum tours and stories at 11am, 1pm and 3pm from Arthur Burnett. Burnett will spin some yarns from Camp Hearne’s own dramatic past and some from the European front lines.
Heino Erichsen, the man who learned about freedom behind the barbed wire of Camp Hearne, will present his remarkable life story at 2pm, including his stint in Germany’s elite Afrika Korps and time as a "guest" of the USA during World War II.
Bryan Amateur Radio club has been invited to show some of the communications and technology used during WWII and to display some of the newer technology that is a direct result of the war. Visit www.bryanarc.org/camphearne for more information.
