Quarteto Vivace Brazil will perform October 10 as part of the Community Chamber concert series. The Board of the Friends of Chamber Music has announced the 16th season of Community Chamber Concerts. The 2011-12 season will feature six concerts with three in the fall and three in the spring. Leading off the season will be a performance by Ars Lyrica Houston with the renowned French-Italian soprano Céline Ricci on Thursday, September 22, at First Presbyterian Church in Bryan. Ars Lyrica (“lyric arts”) is an instrumental and vocal ensemble specializing in music of the 17th and 18th centuries and featuring period-instrument programming.
The second concert will feature a unique blending of instruments – guitar, flute and percussion – as represented in the Quarteto Vivace Brazil. The quartet’s appearance, also at First Presbyterian Church, on Monday, October 10, will include a mixture of both familiar classical pieces and works by Brazilian composers.
The final concert of the fall will highlight the virtuoso pianist James Dick, founder of Festival Hill at Round Top and a longtime favorite in the Brazos Valley, performing with the world-renowned Cassatt String Quartet, which will debut a piano quintet by the eminent Texas composer Dan Welcher. This concert, co-sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University, will be held on Tuesday, November 15, in Rudder Theatre on the Texas A&M University campus.
The first concert of 2012 will mark the return of the Vinca String Quartet on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. The Vinca quartet, which performed to considerable acclaim during the 2009-10 season, will be performing at First Presbyterian Church, which will also be the venue for the final two concerts of the season in March and April. In a concert co-sponsored by Concerts on Carter Creek, New York Polyphony will appear on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. New York Polyphony, described as “early music’s Fab Four,” is an all-male vocal quartet and has been featured on NPR and American Public Radio.
The final concert of the 2011-12 season will feature the Russian cellist Dmitry Kouzov on Thursday, April 12, 2012. Mr. Kouzov, a First Prize Winner at the International Beethoven Competition and winner of the New York Cello Society Rising Star Award, will present a concert featuring works of Schumann, Beethoven, Debussy and Rachmaninoff.
Community Chamber Concerts receives financial support from hotel and motel tax revenues from the City of College Station, as administered through the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley; from many generous patrons in the Bryan/College Station area; and, especially, from The Gilbert and Thyra Plass Arts Foundation.
