The story behind the classic tale of Peter Pan is coming to the Blinn College District’s Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center.
Finding Neverland will be staged Friday, Jan. 31, at 7pm in the O’Donnell Center, located at 600 Blinn Blvd. on the Brenham Campus as part of the 2019-20 Performing Arts Series.
A musical adaptation of the Academy Award-winning film, Finding Neverland tells the incredible story behind one of the world’s most beloved characters: Peter Pan.
Playwright J.M. Barrie struggles to find inspiration until he meets four young brothers and their beautiful widowed mother. Spellbound by the boys’ make-believe adventures, he sets out to write a play that will astound London theatregoers. With a little bit of pixie dust and a lot of faith, Barrie takes a monumental leap and leaves his old world behind for Neverland, where nothing is impossible and the wonder of childhood lasts forever. The magic of Barrie’s classic tale springs to life in a show NPR calls “far and away the best musical of the year!”
This marks the first time a Broadway show has been included as part of the Performing Arts Series.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to bring this caliber of show to our community,” says Debbie Vavra, dean of the Division of Visual/Performing Arts and Kinesiology. “This show and the entire series would not be possible without the support of Dr. Mary Hensley, chancellor of the Blinn College District, and the hard work of our Theatre Arts students, who work as crew members for the events. The series allows us to enhance the academic classroom with real-life theatre experience that can build the students’ portfolio.”
Show tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for children age 10 and younger. The show is recommended for children 7 and older; fog, haze, and strobe lights are included as special effects.
Prior to the show, Blinn will host a special reception at 6pm in the O’Donnell Center’s MRW Studio Theatre. Reception tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children 10 and under.
Tickets for both the show and the reception are available at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice.
“Finding Neverland” marks the third show in the 2019-20 Performing Arts Series.
On March 17, Blinn will conclude this season of the Performing Arts Series when it welcomes back The Young Irelanders.
Each year, the Irish Cultural Academy brings together Irish traditional music, song, and dance as part of one sensational group known as The Young Irelanders. Each performer – still in their 20s – is an Irish national champion in their discipline. Members of the Irish Cultural Academy have performed across six continents and for many heads of state, presidents of Ireland, U.S. presidents, and royalty, including Prince Albert of Monaco. Members also have performed in noted international venues such as the Beijing Opera House, Sydney Opera House, Kremlin State Palace in Moscow, the U.S. Capitol Building, The Kennedy Center, and the Lincoln Center. Tickets for the 7pm show are available now at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice.
