'Waterfall' by Steephollow Forgeworks in Bryan. Metal art will be on display for purchase or admiration at the open house on February 18. Everyone is invited to go out and see how the past is forged into the future at Steephollow Forgeworks' second annual gathering of professional and amateur blacksmiths on February 18. The open house at their Bryan studio will feature demonstrations and a metal art exhibition. The event also serves as a combined meeting of the Houston Area Blacksmiths Association and Balcones Forge (Austin area).
Displays of artists' ironwork, for viewing and for purchase, new and used equipment sales and blacksmithing demonstrations will run continuously from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 7286 Mesco Drive in Bryan. Food and drinks will be available and donations will be accepted.
All activities are free and the public is encourage to attend. Members of HABA and Blacones Forge will be submitting metal bowls for judging in a friendly competition. After the winner is announced, the bowls will be donated to Empty Bowls of Texas, a grassroots effort by artisits and craftspeople to fee the hungry in their communities.
