The upcoming 2021-2022 season is going to be the 26th one in the Friends of Chamber Music’s history. As it was done for a quarter of a century, this season FCM will present world-class, internationally-acclaimed musicians in concerts that are free and open to the public. One of the most intriguing new features of this concert series promises to be Forums with Artists, brief sessions of exchanges of questions and answers between audience members and guest musicians immediately following performances.
FCM is thrilled to announce the return to live, in-person concerts this fall with online streaming options available.
The upcoming 2021-2022 concert season offers everything that is chamber music and much more.
- For the first time in the FCM’s history, the new season will have a runup, Jazz Prelude, to the season, a performance by the Raquel Cepeda Jazz Septet, in an open-air setting on Sept. 17.
- The Axiom Brass Quintet will officially kick off the 26th season series with Love, Mystery & Despair, a program featuring music infused with Latin-American colors and textures, on Oct. 9.
- The New York Polyphony, one of today’s best a cappella ensembles, will introduce their vocal meditation on Christmas, Sing Thee Nowell, a unique, diverse, and spellbinding musical experience, on Dec. 3.
- The most unusual instrumental colors will be sparkled by harpist Bridget Kibbey and violinist Alexi Kenney in their program Counterpoint in Motion on Feb. 12 of the next year.
- Described as “cool and classy” by French press, the Paris-based, skyrocketing on the international classical music scene Arod String Quartet will imbibe well-known compositions with their impeccable technique and sharp interpretations next spring.
- The 26th season finale on April 29 will be a perfect getaway to the subtle and splendid soundscapes of Romantic music with brilliant Rachel Cheung, Finalist and Audience Award Winner of the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
The Friends Digital Project that was developed over the last season will continue this year, offering live-streaming and video options online alongside live performances.
Special Events
FCM plans to resume, suspended for a year by the pandemic, the tradition of special events tailored to provide unique settings for personal one-on-one interactions between FCM’s patrons and visiting artists.
Outreach
Traditionally, all guest artists will take part in outreach programs designed to engage local students with classical music and expand their understanding of the performing arts. This season, Friends of Chamber Music will be continuing the Friends Scholarship program launched last spring. In May of 2022, scholarships of $1000 will be awarded to local high school seniors who plan to continue their music activities in college.
