The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation will host a combined concert featuring the Harvard Glee Club, Radcliffe Choral Society, and the Texas A&M Singing Cadets and Women’s Chorus Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 7pm in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center.
“The Texas A&M Singing Cadets are celebrating their 125th anniversary this year, and we can think of no better way to celebrate our year than to collaborate with another one of the most famous men's choruses in the world―The Harvard Glee Club,” says David Kipp, director of choral activities for Texas A&M. “Bringing these two organizations together on one stage will be an opportunity never seen before for both organizations.”
Founded in 1858, the Harvard Glee Club is America’s oldest collegiate glee club. It includes both undergraduate and graduate students with interests and concentrations ranging from applied mathematics to sociology. The choir’s status as a student-run nonprofit provides members opportunities for leadership and arts management, including planning and executing multi-week international tours, organizing concerts with collaborating universities, and marketing the Glee Club’s concerts and merchandise.
The Radcliffe Choral Society, founded in 1899, is a women’s treble choral ensemble at Harvard University. The ensemble performs a distinctive repertoire spanning nine centuries of choral literature: sacred and secular, a cappella and accompanied, and collaborative and choral-orchestral. The choir aims to foster the appreciation and enjoyment of women's choral music through the commission of new works for women's voices, high-caliber performances, and domestic and international travel, striving to honor its history and further its legacy.
Internationally known as the “Voice of Aggieland,” the Singing Cadets is Texas A&M's premier men’s chorus. As one of the oldest collegiate singing organizations in the world, it has toured both in the United States and abroad, and has earned recognition by doing so, including invitations to sing for various American presidents. This year, the Singing Cadets is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
“I'm proud of and excited for our joint concert with the Harvard Glee Club,” said Corey Bowers, president of the Singing Cadets. “As the Singing Cadets celebrate our 125th anniversary and Harvard Glee Club celebrates their 160th, it will be a concert to remember. Two groups that come from very different universities, yet both share a love for singing and each have their own rich history are sure to make a great show!”
The Texas A&M University Women's Chorus, founded in 1979, includes 50 talented undergraduate women who are dedicated to choral excellence and possess a true passion for music. The chorus represents Texas A&M across Texas, the nation, and abroad through various concerts.
The Singing Cadets and Women’s Chorus are part of the Department of Music Activities, which is part of Texas A&M University’s Division of Student Affairs.
