The College Station Noon Lions Club will present its second annual Jazz Fest in downtown Bryan on April 8 and 9. Jazz Fest 2016 will be held at the Palace Theater located at 105 S. Main St. and will run from 6:00pm to 10:00pm on Friday, April 8, and from 10:00am to 10:00pm on Saturday, April 9. Admission is five dollars per day and concessions will be available.
Performers include many professional ensembles such as the Greg Tivis Jazz Band, Done Pope & Friends, and the Karen Chavis Combo. Other performers include talent from area high schools and colleges including College Station High School, Prairie View A&M, Blinn College, and Texas A&M University. The masters of ceremonies will be Rusty Rush and Wayne Smith.
Dick Phelps, musician and chair of Jazz Fest 2016 said, “Jazz is an American music form where you learn the rules of music and then you break them. More than ever, young people are accepting this challenge.” Phelps added that he “is proud to chair an event providing opportunities for local student musicians as well as local professionals.”
The College Station Lions hold Jazz Fest as a fundraiser for the many local and state charities that the organization supports. These include sending children with physical disabilities or diabetes to summer camp, vision exams and eyeglasses for local residents, and the Fun for All Playground in College Station – a playground that is designed for children of all ages and all abilities.
