Designer handbags, sunglasses and jewelry from $20 to $2,000 … sound like your kind of event?
by Jessie Lin
When the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center (BVRC) hosts the annual Power of the Purse fundraiser, it’s a night of bling and swing that includes firemen modeling purses, a live and silent auction and great food. It is also all to support services provided for a very important cause: providing positive change for those in the Brazos Valley with disabilities, special needs or functional limitations through the BVRC services.
This year’s event will be held Friday, April 26, at the College Station Hilton Ballroom and is sponsored by Davis & Davis Lawyers. Purse and jewelry styles and brands will include everything from Kate Spade and Coach to Louis Vuitton. This year, approximately 400 ladies are expected to attend the event. Tickets are $40 each and are available for purchase at BVRC or by calling Development Director Nichole Quick at (979) 776-2872.
Power of the Purse Chair Jan Lee promises that Power of the Purse will be the most meaningful and fun event this year: “I attended the first Power of the Purse and had so much fun I asked if I could be on the committee and I still am! It’s a fun and affordable night out for women of any age!” Along with savory appetizers, delectable desserts and drinks, the firemen from Fire Station No.6 will model fashion purses to entertain all the ladies.
The BVRC is a local non-profit outpatient treatment facility dedicated to the mission of helping people with disabilities lead independent lives. Founded in 1957, every contributed dollar stays in the
Brazos Valley to help area children and adults with disabilities. Approximately $300,000 of the annual budget comes from local supporters and BVRC fundraising events. For more information, visit www.east-texas.easterseals.com.
